RESTORE FOCUS TRAINING - SCHOOL BASED OPTION
Bring our Successful "Truancy Prevention" Program as a low-cost, sustainable option to your school. We'd love to train you in our model!
If you want to bring what we are doing to your schools and have the ability to contextualize - then this training package is for you! Whether you are a school, district, or interested community member - we've got our Restore Program now in a training package so you can be the implementer and we'll support as coaches or consultants.
Our 60-hour basic training program gives you the whole package (seen on this website) to launch a successful Restore Program the moment you finish training! We start with skill-building in Restorative Family Mediation™ (Rule 114 MN SCA approved), then we move into Restorative Leadership™ development and coaching tailored for school environments. Throughout our basic training program you'll get practical hands-on experiential learning with effective program strategies we’ve developed and tested attendance outcomes in 16 school districts designed for parents and youth ages 12-18. By the end of our 5-day training, you will feel ready and energized to implement this simple yet highly effective program designed to support your school and address the needs of chronically absent youth. After the 5-day training, you'll be plugged into ongoing monthly coaching and development (during the school year - 2 hours a month over a lunch break), providing you with the support and reassurance you need to ensure your effectiveness is "on point." At the end of the initial 12 months of training support (paid as a flat fee upon registration), you will be required to maintain annual continuing education to meet our standards for Rule 114 Code of Ethics and Continuing Education hours for family mediation, program fidelity at a school level, and advanced mediation skill development.
What sets our program apart? We offer four unique and critical elements that make our training stand out.
-
The most critical element of our Restore Program success is the role of neutral mediators, who act as impartial facilitators in restorative conversations and are responsible for drafting plans/agreements with youth, parents, and schools. These mediators ensure that all parties are heard and that the resulting agreements are fair and beneficial to everyone involved.
-
Our model takes a restorative leadership approach to model and support "parents as providers" and influencers with their teens. Addressing and encouraging parent leadership and responsibility, when youth are struggling, is a core feature of our program and training.
-
School culture and entrenched disciplinary practices can often hinder the implementation of Restorative Leadership™ in educational settings. Overcoming these challenges requires a willingness to remain coachable and adopt a learner's mindset, which is also critical to local school success. We equip and build self-awareness in "taking a nap" - a Non-Anxious Presence in the facilitator role when others are stressed, blaming, highly reactive, and projecting the problem. Our defaults tend to control and shut down others - we'll stretch your capacity and help you navigate complex dynamics with greater grace and ease.
-
The importance of experiential learning in mediation training and program strategies allows all future Restore Program implementers to feel confident about their new skills and adhere to model integrity - ultimately leading to local success in students and schools. You will never walk alone as you implement programming, but instead, have a trusted coach and ally supporting your success! We will set you up with a "Restore Program in a Box" after your first 5 days of training including handouts, parent letter templates, restorative session road maps/guides, truancy information, Memorandums of Agreement, parent and youth agendas, how to track and measure changes in attendance, and best practices! We've placed all of our knowledge working with 16 school districts into one big box for you to run with.
You'll glean the wisdom of our team's learnings working with 16 different Minnesota school districts, how to effectively connect with parents, build a simple localized program that is easy to implement and track success, and more!.
The Restore Program is now available to you.

Anyone. However, we do make these recommendations to identify the right staff:
- Choose individuals that can remain calm during emotional or high conflict moments but connected, someone with excellent hospitality skills, has a good understanding of school supports to connect and resource students to. These folks must be able to "take off any hat or title" to neutrally facilitate and not insert power or bias.
-We typically see school counselors, Deans, social workers, behavior specialists latch onto our program design best. But we've had teacher mentors, IT personnel, principals, and others successfully facilitate!
If you'd like to pursue inviting community members, we have had wonderful success with youth pastors, youth mentors from non profits, and grandparents. Be creative - just be sure you know you can rely on them when a student needs support!
Absolutely! Our program is not limited to MN and you will be required to adhere to your state truancy laws. This is a truancy prevention program - designed for youth missing 3 or more unexcused absences. You will be required to adhere to the same programming commitments of three years with ongoing continuing education to ensure program fidelity and effectiveness. We stand by our reputation!
Yes. If you decide The Restore Program is a right fit for you, it is a three year commitment to ensure the program is stable and effective. You will be required to attend an annual 1 day refresher training for ongoing coaching, support, and leadership development to ensure model fidelity and the application of the neutral facilitator role is never compromised. Monthly coaching and trouble shooting calls will remain available as well. We train all participants as Rule 114 Restorative Family Mediators, which requires ongoing continuing education to keep these credentials active. We provide those CEs within the 1 day refresher to maintain mediation credentials.
